Collection: 440C High Carbon Steel - Razor Blade Steel
440 Stainless Steel is also known as razor blade steel. This steel comes in various grades of carbon: 440A, 440B, 440C, 440F. 440 Stainless is a bit of an old fashioned choice for knife makers and many knife designers with a smaller forge are unable to work 440 as it requires high heat. 440 Stainless has lost ground to some of the new super steels or carbon steels but many older generation knife makers swear by it. Nicknamed "Old Faithful", particularly 440C makes a solid blade at a reasonable cost.
440C Stainless Steel is a high carbon grade steel in the 440 family. This steel can be hardened by heat treatment to reach hardness of 58–60 HRC on the Rockwell scale. Excellent for good quality knife making on a budget.
