Collection: VG-10 Blade Steel

VG-10 is a preferred knifemakers high carbon stainless steel, originally made by Takefu Special Steel Co. in Japan.

VG-10: 1% Carbon, 15% Chromium, 1% Molybdenum, 0.2% Vanadium, 1.5% Cobalt, and 0.5% Manganese

VG-10 is harder than most stainless steels and at the same time easy to sharpen with excellent cutting characteristics but inherently the high carbon content increases the susceptibility to pit corrosion.  Pitting is simply avoided by wiping the blade after use and occasionally cleaning the blade with metal polish.The excellent cutting and easy sharpening outweighs the high carbon content downside of VG-10 steel and is a very common high value blade steel.
